The coastal town of Inverness is located northeast of Scotland, where the River Ness flows into the Moray Firth (which is part of the North Sea).Inverness is administrasjonsby regional Highland, and is often called “highland capital”.
The city has about 59,000 inhabitants (2010).
Inverness was granted city status in 1180, and is today an important commercial and tourist center. The city is known for its production of whiskey, and also has a substantial wool industry.
In Dalmore Destillery produced whiskey, and here visitors can tour and tasting.
The city’s most famous landmark is the castle “Inverness Castle” from 1835, which is built over the ruins of an old fort from 1745.
Other tourist attractions in the city include St. Andrews Cathedral from 1869, the Roman Catholic St. Mary’s Church (St. Mary’s) from 1837 – which was expanded in 1894 and the museum “Inverness Museum & Art Gallery” – with exhibitions of art, history and culture.
Inverness have otherwise theater, great shopping, and offers activities such as golf and water sports. In the sports center’s swimming pool with water slides.
About 15 km outside the town is the famous Loch Ness – where for centuries think you have seen Sea Monster “Nessie”.
The city’s airport – Inter Ness Airport – located 13 miles east of downtown.
