Zambia is a landlocked country located in southern Africa. It is bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Malawi to the east, Tanzania to the north-east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west.The country has a population of 14,309,466 (2012) inhabitants and is the capital Lusaka.Zambia is a Christian country, but there are several traditional religions. In 1964 the country became independent from Britain. Zambia, formerly Northern Rhodesia, it was named after the British imperialist Cecil John Rhodes (1853-1902) who earned a fortune at the expense of southern Africa’s natural resources. The country has major problems with the HIV / AIDS epidemic, and approximately 70% of Zambians live below the national poverty line. Agriculture is important to the economy, but the country has important mineral resources such as nickel, tin, copper and uranium, and it attracts international mining companies.
