Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is located 25 km east of the capital – and is also known as New Bangkok International Airport. The airport was opened in 2006, replacing the old airport Don Mueang Bangkok. The airport’s control tower, with its 132 meters, the world’s highest – and the terminal is the world’s second largest. It consists of seven wings – two for domestic traffic and five for international traffic. As many as 70 million passengers are served annually here.
Bangkok Airport is the main hub for several major airlines, including Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways and Orient Thai Airlines. There are a large number of fixed routes, operated by several international airlines to destinations worldwide.
There have been no train running between the airport and Bangkok, but a line is under construction. One can however choose express bus, local bus or taxi. If you want to rent a car at the airport, you can turn to that of the many rental agencies that are represented there. These include Avis, Budget, Europcar, National, Sixt and Thrifty.
The public facilities at the airport are good, and a variety of bars, cafes and restaurants at Bangkok Airport. Most of them are located in the departure hall on the fourth floor. Here you will find the majority of shops, but there are also some shops in the second and third floor.
Nearest hotels are Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is located on the airport site – vis a vis the terminal.
