Bergerac is situated in southwest France – In the region Aquitaine, and is the second largest town in the department of Dordogne.The city has about 30,000 inhabitants (2009), and is located on the River Dordogne.
The city and the surrounding area is known for its wines, and there are many vineyards and beautiful castles.
A major tourist attraction in Bergerac’s historic center from the Middle Ages, which is located on the north side of the river. Here you will find pleasant cobbled streets and squares, restaurants and shops.
In the old city is the wine museum “Maison des Vins de Bergerac” recommended a visit. The museum is housed in an old convent from the 1100s, where you can see exhibits that tell the story of Bergerac wines. In summer there are often concerts here and in December there is a popular Christmas market at the monastery.
Other popular tourist attractions include Bergerac Church of Notre-Dame from 1868, sculpture museum “Musée Costi” which opened in 2003 and the Tobacco Museum – founded in 1950. Here visitors can learn more about tobacco and smoking from a cultural standpoint, the museum interesting exhibits.
The nearest airport is Bergerac Airport – Roumanieres, located 8 km southeast of the city.
