Fort Myers is located in the state of Florida by the River Caloosahatchee River, which empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The city is located in the county of Lee County – 195 miles southeast of Tampa.
Fort Myers has 63,000 inhabitants (2011), and is a popular seaside resort – where the main attraction is primarily the inviting beach “Fort Mayers Beach”. Because of the many palm trees in Fort Myers, called the city often just “City of Palms”.
Thomas Edison lived in Fort Myers winter and leveled a rubber lab here. The city hosts an annual lysfestival in honor of Edison – “Pegant of Light”.
A major tourist attraction in the city is the historical museum “Edison and Ford Winter Estates.” This was winter residences of both Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, where visitors can get guided tour where you can see hundreds of Edison and Ford inventions and artifacts. There is also a botanic garden here.
