Koh Samui Airport (USM) is located on the resort island of Koh Samui, Koh Samui also written in the Gulf of Thailand, specifically in the southern Thai province of Surat Thani. The airport was opened in 1989 and is owned by Bangkok Airways. It operated in excess of 1 million passengers annually and the airport is designated as one of the world’s most beautiful.
Bangkok Airways and several other Southeast Asian airlines have regular flights here from such Bangkok, Chian Mai, Phuket, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Taipei.
Koh Samui Airport has two terminals – one for domestic and one for international traffic.
Near the airport is Port Big Buddha Pier, from where the ferry to the resort of Ko Pha Ngan – and from the nearby port Maenam Beach Pier is the express routes to Koh Tao and Chumphon.
The public facilities at the airport include a large gift shop, passenger lounges and several restaurants and bars. There is also a separate shopping street in the airport area – as well as playgrounds for children. There are several hotels in the airport area.
