Reno is located at the foot of the famous mountain range of the Sierra Nevada in the U.S. state of Nevada, and has about 225,000 inhabitants (2011).
Reno began his development towards an urban village in the middle of the 1800s, including because of the discovery of gold in the nearby mountains. This created a gold rush, which, however, did not last as long – but long enough for the settlement was relatively large. Some years later it was found that silver, and mining operations were established – something that proved to be far more lucrative.
Otherwise Reno primarily known as “The Biggest Little Town in the World” – and is famous for its many casinos. Reno competing there with another city in Nevada, namely the even more famous Las Vegas. Reputation as a city of gamblers, combined with some – by U.S. standards – very liberal divorce laws, has given the city a reputation as a moral “frayed”.
Reno is much better than its reputation, and the city is also an education center in Nevada – and have included state’s oldest university, the University of Nevada – which was established in 1864.Moreover Reno a natural starting point for visiting the wonderful skiing facilities that have been established in the mountains of the neighbouring areas.
There are two airports in Reno: Reno – Tahoe International Airport is located 6 km southeast of the city, and Reno Stead Airport. This is located 19 miles northwest of downtown.
