Svendborg is located southeast of the Danish island of Funen in Region of Southern Denmark, and has 27,000 inhabitants (2011). The city is the administrative center of Svendborg municipality, and a considerable trade and place of education for the region.
Svendborg is an old city, and has preserved its old city center with narrow streets, squares and courtyards environment. The downtown area has a hilly terrain, and in the main streets “Møller Renegade” and “Gerritsgade” There are many boutiques and specialty shops.
The center slopes down to the port and ferries from here to Ærø, Drejø, Skaro and Hjortö.
Svendborg City Museum is a much-visited attraction, and this historical museum located in the city’s oldest building – Annes Hvides Gaard – from 1560. Other attractions include Svendborg the Zoological Museum “Naturama” Toy Museum and Saint Nicholas Church from 1240-century.
The city also has a number of art galleries that are worth a visit.
