Reims Located in northeast France – In the region of Champagne-Ardenne – and belongs to the French Ministry Marne.Little River (which is a tributary of the Aisne) runs through the city.
Reims has approximately 181,000 inhabitants (2009), and the region is known for its production of the sparkling wine champagne.
Reims is also known to be an important, historic city – as it was here that the French kings were crowned from the 1200s until the 1800s. This happened in the beautiful Gothic cathedral “Notre-Dame” from the 1200s – which today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral is a major tourist attraction and one of the city vartegn.
Another popular attraction in Reims is the Roman triumphal arch “La Porte de Mars” from 300’s. This is 33 meters long and 13 meters high with three arches. Also basilica “St. Rémi” from 1000’s, a visit.
Other attractions include “Place Royal” with a statue of Louis XV, “Place du Parvis” with the statue of Jeanne d’Arcsamt Archbishop’s Palace from 1509 – which today houses a natural history museum.
