Örnsköldsvik is a city and hovedsesete for Örnsköldsvik Municipality in Västernorrland located east of Sweden at the Gulf of Bothnia. The town has 28,991 inhabitants (2010). It is named after the governor Per Abraham Ornskold and is one of the few Swedish cities that are named after a non-royal person.
In 2011 the municipality was named Sweden’s adventures municipality because of the good arrangements for outdoor activities in collaboration with organizations and businesses. But then Örnsköldsvik also a very varied and beautiful scenery to show, from the coastline to the mountains, lakes and forests. It is especially known for the High Coast archipelago, part of it is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. In the area there are many islands that can be reached by boat.
