Dijon is located in the eastern part of France, and is the capital of the region of Bourgogne. The city has 150,800 inhabitants (2005). Dijon is an important trade center, famous for the production and sale of Burgundy wine, liquor, mustard, vinegar etc.   It is said that Dijon is one of the most beautiful cities in France, because the city avoided being destroyed by bombs during the 2nd World War. The town has many churches and cathedrals, beautiful parks, art galleries and museums. The beautiful Saint-Bénigne Cathedral (1250-1288) should be mentioned in particular.   It is built in the Gothic style, with a 94 meters high tower.    Dijon has otherwise – like Paris – both its Notre Dame Cathedral and its triumphal arch (Port Guillaume) ..

Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne   Also worth a visit. Here we find both art museum Musée des Beaux Arts, and City Hall.

Dijon’s main shopping street called Rue de la Liberté. It stretches from the Place Darcy the Palais des Ducs.   Where can such visit Le Boutique Maille (a specialty shop for mustard!).   Also Les Halles will for many be an exciting excursion.   It is a large, indoor market for agricultural produce, meat and seafood.
