Hoogeveen is located northeast of the Netherlands, specifically in the province of Drenthe. The town has 55,000 inhabitants.
Hoogeveen was founded in 1636, and was at the end of the 1960s, the fastest growing city in the Netherlands.In the center of town are a number of channels, and there is also some older buildings – including the former pharmacist from 1703, with its beautiful facade, “Olde Skipper Huus” from 1633 and the church “Grote Kerk aan de Grote Kerstraat” from 1664.
Other attractions Hoogeveen is the Jewish cemetery – which was founded in 1829, “Vincent van Gogh House” – where the painter lived a few weeks in 1883 and corn mill “De Swalum” from 1834 – which still produces flour for local bakers. Grain Mill is open to the public.
The cultural history museum “Historical Museum The 5000 Morning” also recommended a visit. Here you can learn more about the city and its history, which has both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
