Lille is located in Northern France the river Deûle – near the border with Belgium.The city is located in the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and belongs to the French Ministry of the North.

Lille has approximately 230,000 inhabitants (2009), and is an important commercial, financial and cultural center. In addition, Lille University and a number of other educational institutions. The city was named the European Capital of Culture in 2004.

Off the tourist attractions in Lille old town must be mentioned. There are many beautiful buildings – more in the Flemish Renaissance style. Main square “Place du General de Gaulle” is located in the heart of the city, and the area can be such see the Old Marketplace “Ancienne Bourse” from 1652.
