Marbella is located on the Mediterranean coast – specifically in the province of Málaga in the southern Spanish region of Andalucia.Marbella has about 140,000 inhabitants (2011), and is a popular tourist and beach resort on the “Costa del Sol” with sandy beaches, a beautiful beach lined with palm trees and several marinas.
Just west of downtown, the marina “Puero Banus” – which is known for its luxury feel. It is very expensive yachts side by side, and the area is characterized by exclusive boutiques and great restaurants and nightclubs.
The old town of Marbella is also worth a visit. Here are historical buildings and churches – including church “Iglesia de mostra Senora de la Encarnacion” from the 1500s, the Catholic Church “Santiago” from the 1400s (the oldest religious building) and square “Plaza de los Naranjus” with city hall from 1568.
Other tourist attractions in Marbella area of the street “Avenida del Mar” – with sculptures by Salvador Dali art museum “Museo del Grabado Espanol Contemporáneo” – including works by Picasso, Dali and Miro, Bonsai museum, a botanical garden and a water park.
There are also a number of golf courses in the area surrounding the city.
Marbella organizes several annual music festivals – including a jazz festival, an international opera festival and a reggae festival.
The nearest airport is Malaga Airport, located 51 km northeast of Marbella.
