Monaco, a principality and the world’s second smallest country, situated on the French Riviera (Cote d’Azur) – mao within France’s borders. The country consists mainly of an urban area. Monaco is, by its very modest area of only 2 km ², one of the most densely populated countries. The population is approx. 30,000 (2010).
Monaco consists almost entirely of the urban area which is the capital of the same name. The area is divided into four districts (“quartiers”), Monaco-Ville (Old Town), La Condamine (at the port), Monte Carlo and Fontvieille.
Monte Carlo is the most prestigious and famous district of Monaco, known for its casino and its fashionable beaches.Glamour factor in Monte Carlo is very high. Large parts of the world-famous race Monaco Grand Prix takes place in Monte Carlo.
The small country has two official languages: French and Monegasque – an ancient local language belonging to the same language family as French and Italian.
