Windhoek is the capital of Namibia, and is centrally located in the country. The city has about 316,000 inhabitants (2010). Windhoek is about. 1700 meters and is surrounded by mountains.
The capital is Namibia’s political, economic and cultural center – and is also an important transport hub. In addition, one should visit the Christ Church (“Christuskirche”) in neo-Gothic style of the late 1800s, the Roman Catholic St. Mary’s Cathedral from 1908, with its two towers and building “Tintenpalast” – which nowadays houses the Namibian Parliament.
Otherwise Windhoek a natural history museum, railroad museum, geological museum, botanical garden, and city park observatory “Zoo Park” – where one can stroll in peaceful surroundings. The park is also a Chinese pavilion, an open-air theater and a playground for children.
