Antibes guide
Antibes is located in southeast France on the Mediterranean – specifically, between the towns of Nice and Cannes on the “French Riviera” (“Côte d’Azur”).
Antibes is located in the department of Alpes-Maritimes, and has about 80,000 inhabitants (2010).
Many tourists who want sun and beach holiday with beautiful sandy beaches and azure blue sea comes to Biarritz in summer. The city can also tempt you with excellent opportunities for water sports.
Antibes is also known to be a beautiful city with a number of historic buildings in the Old Town. There are also several old churches, narrow streets, markets and art galleries.
One of the biggest tourist attractions in Antibes is the Picasso museum, located in the Grimaldi castle from the 1500s. Here’s a great collection of art created by Pablo Picasso from the time he lived and worked in Antibes.
Another popular tourist attraction in the city is the fortress “Fort Carré” from 1585, which is located on a hill (on the peninsula of Saint-Roch). From here one has a panoramic view, and the fortress – which today houses a museum – is open to the public.
Antibes is otherwise an archaeological museum and a botanic garden, and a little outside town family attraction “Marineland” – including water park, dolphin show and a butterfly park.
Nearest international airport is Nice Airport (Aéroport Nice Côte d’Azur) located 18 km northeast of Antibes.
