Brisbane is located on the southeast coast of Australia by the river Brisbane River, and is the capital of the state of Queensland. Brisbane is the 3rd largest city in Australia after Sydney and Melbourne, and has about 2 million inhabitants (2009).

The surrounding Brisbane is characterized by alluvial plains and hills, and the highest point is the mountain Mount Coot-Tha, which measures 287 meters Brisbane has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and dry, mild winters. January is the warmest month with an average temperature of 25 degrees C.

Brisbane is a popular tourist destination, with 4.6 million annual visitors from home and abroad. Some of the most visited sights include Bridge Story Bridge from 1940 – which is one of the oldest in Australia, China Town, Brisbane City Hall – City Hall from 1930 with the City History Museum, the Art Gallery “Queensland Gallery of Modern Art” and the South Bank Parklands – a great recreational area by the river with artificial beach , ferris wheel, market, restaurants and shops.

Brisbane has also zoological – botanical garden, and a planetarium. Near the town’s sandy beaches which is also a paradise for surfers.

The city’s international airport – Brisbane Airport – located 20 miles northeast of downtown.
