Heerenveen is located in the northern part of the Netherlands, and belongs to the province of Friesland.The town has 43,500 inhabitants (2011), and is an industrial and commercial center.
Heerenveen was founded in 1551 and is today best known for his skating arena “Thialf”. It has world-renowned skaters and Olympic champions set several world records, and each year the skating in this skating hall.
Heerenveen has several preserved old buildings – including City Hall from 1648 (which are surrounded by moats), building “Oenema State” from 1640 (which is now the café) and windmill “Welgelegen” from 1849.
Other tourist attractions in the city include Museum Belvédère – with exhibitions of contemporary art and Wilhelm Van Haren Museum – a cultural history museum including a miniature model of Heerenveen, so the town looked in the 1830s.
