Pelhřimov is a city in Czech Republic located southeast of Prague. On colloquially called the “Gateway to the Highlands” because of its location in the westernmost tip of the Czech-Moravian Highlands. It has a population of 16 714 (2008) inhabitants.
The city has an important industry, especially in food processing. It is the historic buildings that are primarily city, which was founded in the 1200s, attractions. Some of them are Chateau of Lords of Ricany from the 1500s, Church of St Bartholomew, St. Vitus Church, which is the city’s oldest church, and a theater in the neoclassical style of the 1700s. From a 30 meter high tower has a view of the entire city and the surrounding countryside. There are many good walks in the area.
Every year in June is held the International Record Festival Pelhřimov where the goal is to take records in various areas.
The nearest major airport is Pardubice Airport around 100 km northeast of the center. Prague Václav Havel Airport is located over 130 km away.
