Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the main part of the Arabian Peninsula and is the second largest state in the Arab world.It borders Jordan and Iraq to the north-east Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on the east, Oman in the southeast, Yemen in the south, the Red Sea to the west and the Persian Gulf in the east.The population is 28,376,355 (2010) inhabitants and the capital is Riyadh. 97% of the total population are Muslims.

The country has the world’s second-largest oil reserves, which are concentrated mainly in the eastern province. Oil accounts for more than 95% of exports and 70% of government revenues.
Tourism in Saudi Arabia is largely based around the pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina. Mecca receives over three million pilgrims a year only during the month of Hajj, and the rest of the year around nine million pilgrims. Non-Muslims are not allowed. Medina is sacred because the mosque Al-Masjid al-Nabawi contains Muhammad’s tomb.

Another popular destination is Al-Diriyah outside Riyadh.Diriyah was original home of the Saudi royal family, and served as the capital of the first Saudi dynasty from 1744 to 1818.Mada’in Saleh is a pre-Islamic archaeological site with ruins from the Nabatean kingdom (1st century ADKr.). It also tracks from the Lihyani, an Arab kingdom from centuries before Christ, and Roman occupations.
Saudi Arabia criticized for its systematic discrimination against women. It is the only country in the world where women are not allowed to drive.
