Scotland is located northwest of Europe, is a partially self-governing nation with 5.2 million inhabitants (2011), which is part of the United Kingdom along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Scotland borders England to the south by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west to the North Sea to the east and the Irish Sea to the southwest. Islands Hebrides, Shetland and Orkney Islands also belong to Scotland.

The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh, the country’s second largest city (after Glasgow), with about 486,000 inhabitants. Edinburgh is located in southeast Scotland on the coast, and is considered to be one of Europe’s largest financial centers. The city is known for having numerous preserved historic buildings, and is also famous for its many annual festivals.
Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city, and has approximately 593,000 inhabitants (2.5 million in the metropolitan area). The city is located 82 km west of Edinburgh. Other major cities in Scotland Dundee and Aberdeen.
The country’s main airport is Edinburgh Airport, located 10 km west of the capital. Otherwise Glasgow International Airport is one of Scotland’s busiest airports.
