The Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheik is situated on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula – at the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba – and has approx. 35 000 inhabitants 2010 The city has a smooth, warm climate, and is consequently a popular year-round destination.
Sharm el-Sheik was basically a small, insignificant fishing village, but during the last decades, it built strong out to be one of Egypt’s most modern and popular tourist spots.The luxury hotels are now lined up along the coast of the Red Sea. Many of the hotels are located in Naama Bay, a few miles east of downtown.On the contrary, it is what one might expect in a Muslim country, and there is a vibrant nightlife in Sharm el-Sheikh, with numerous clubs and restaurants, as well as several casinos. The city stands in many ways as a modern, western inspired tourist “ghetto.”
Sharm el-Sheikh is a paradise for scuba divers from around the world, primarily because of the large, beautiful coral reefs off the coast. Since there are several places are fairly steep and rugged at the beach areas around the city, it is built out large areas with attractive pools, artificial waterfalls, water slides, jacuzzis, etc.
At the very southern tip of the peninsula, we find the national park Ras Mohammed (Mohammed’s head), where there is also a large water park, served especially for children.
