Townsville is located on the coast north-east of Australia and is the largest city in the state of Queenstown. Home to 174,462 residents (2011) in the city. Since it is the unofficial capital of Queenstown there are several state institutions here and larger companies. Townsville is a major industrial city.

There are more than 1,500 different species of tropical fish in all the world’s colors, 300 different corals and over 400 species of sponge. The possibilities for diving and snorkelling are excellent, and there are also possibilities for several of the islands.
Many of the great species of coral reef Great Barrier Reef can be seen in the large aquarium Reef HQ in Townsville. A few days relaxing on the long, tropical beach “The Strand” is also recommended. Townsville City has a quiet, cosmopolitan feel and a good selection of restaurants.
Ross River runs through the urban area of Townsville and is of great importance for the city and an important freshwater source.
