Namur (Nameur in Walloon, Namen in Dutch) is the main town in the Belgian region of Wallonia and is located in the country where the rivers Sambre and Meuse meets 60 km from Brussels.Namur is also the name of Province town is in. The city has 109,765 inhabitants (2011). The official language is French and the local dialect called Valon.

Namur is a city of history long ago and has many interesting buildings such as the Baroque Saint Aubain Cathedral. The main sight is the castle surrounded by walls located on a hill in the old town, “citadel”. It is one of the most important preserved fortresses in Europe. Another attraction is to visit the beautiful gardens of the castle Chateau d’Annevoie just outside the city. It was a strategically important point when the Germans invaded Belgium in 1914 1 World War, and also suffered badly during the 2nd World War.
