Borlänge guide
Borlänge is a city in central Sweden, located at Dalälven in Dalarna.The city has about 42,000 inhabitants (2011), and is an important commercial center for the region. Borlänge is also an administrative center and an important industrial city with steel and paper production.
Borlänge was founded in 1891 and became a city in 1944.
The city is known for its annual music festival “Peace & Love” held during the summer. The Festival is one of Sweden’s largest, with over 50,000 visitors (2011), and many famous international artists have concerts here.
Borlänge is also known for its beautiful scenery, and winter is ski-/alpin-senteret “Romme Alpin” a popular attraction.
Other attractions in Borlänge is Ornässtugan – log houses from the 1500s, Stora Tuna Kyrka from 1496, Amsberg Chapel from the 1600s, Ekopark – ecological park with plants and trees from the region, Geological Museum – with great mineral collection and Jussi Björlingmuseum – dedicated to the famous Swedish singer Jussi Björling, who was born just outside of the city in 1911.
In addition, Borlänge water park “Aqua Nova” – with a wave pool and water slides, as well as future museum with interactive exhibits for the whole family. There is also a planetarium.
There is good shopping in Borlange center, slightly off center’s mall “Kupolen” with over 80 shops and eateries.
The nearest airport is Borlänge Airport, located 10 miles south of downtown. From here there are direct routes to such Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.
