Aarhus Airport (AAR) is located at the village of Tirstrup, about 40 km northeast of Aarhus center.
The airport serves 485,000 passengers annually (2012), and is important for charter tourism.
Aarhus Airport was originally constructed as a military airport in 1943, but opened for civil aviation in 1946. The airport terminal building has been expanded and renovated several times over the years, most recently in 2009.
From Aarhus Airport there are direct routes to such Gothenburg , Oslo, Stockholm, Alicante, London, Moss, Málaga and Copenhagen. Some of the airlines that serve here is Finn Air, British Airways, Ryanair and SAS.
