Rennes is located northwest of France, and is main town in the region of Brittany.The city belongs to the Ministry of Ille-et-Vilaine, located at the confluence of Ille and Vilaine meet. Rennes has approximately 210,000 inhabitants (2009).
Rennes is an important cultural and commercial center and also an important communication center – then both highway and railway between Paris and Brest runs through the city.
Rennes was about destroyed by fire in 1720, and the only buildings that survived the fire is the impressive Palace of Justice from 1654 as well as the town hall from the 1700s – with towers and pavilions.
Other popular attractions in the city include Cathedral St. Pierre from 1845, the beautiful “Jardin du Thabor” – both rose garden and botanical garden, and “Space Science” – a center with planetarium and interactive exhibits for the whole family.
Art buffs should visit the “Musée des beaux-arts” in Rennes, which is an art museum with sculptures and paintings from the 1300s until the 1800s.In this exhibition, works by Picasso, Gauguin, Dufy and Rubens.
The city’s airport – Rennes Airport – St. Jacques – located 9 miles southwest of downtown.
