Serbia is the largest of the former Yugoslav Republics in southeast European Balkan area. The country has a common border with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro.Its population is approximately 7.4 million (2010).

The scenery in Serbia is dominated by plains in the north and relatively high mountains in the south. The river Danube flows from Russia and into Serbia – and where it meets the smaller river Sava – is the capital Belgrade.
Belgrade is a very beautiful city, and it also has many historical and architectural monuments – including the ancient fortress Kalemegdan. In the city of Vojvodina – located in the northern part of the country – there is much well-preserved architecture from the Baroque period.
